12th Annual Women’s Health and Fitness Expo: Weight Loss for Wellness: Lose Weight, Feel Great

Kingston, NY (PRWEB) May 10, 2012

In addition to presentations by several nationally recognized authorities on weight control, the main stage speakers will address the benefits of maintaining an ideal weight for overall health and wellness. Two top Harvard Medical School physicians and noted authors, Dr. Marie Pasinski (neurologist) and Dr. Malissa Wood (cardiologist), will discuss the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including weight control, on heart and brain health. Experts will be available throughout the event for Q&A. This year’s Expo will also spotlight events geared to men and children. Raffle prizes will include a NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 PRO valued at $ 1499 and a spin bike.

The annual Expo attracts well over 5,000 visitors, offering more than 20 free health screenings and over 75 interactive attractions, including expert speakers, workshops, fitness demos, chef demos, spa services, and a healthy food court. Around 125 exhibitor booths and informational tables related to health and well-being participate. Visitors receive complimentary bags filled with health and wellness products and information.

The 2012 Expo theme “Weight Loss for Wellness: Lose Weight, Feel Great,” was developed with our nation’s — and our region’s — ever-alarming obesity rates in mind. (The New York State Health Department’s most recent statistics indicate that 59.6 percent of Ulster County adults and 62.6 percent of Dutchess County adults are obese or overweight.) Obesity is often accompanied by chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Lifestyle changes required to achieve and maintain weight loss can be challenging. At any point in time, one in three women and one in five men in the United States are on some kind of Tone Detox, according to registered dietician and nationally recognized nutrition expert Mary Hartley, one of this year’s main stage speakers. “These diets produce short-term weight loss but two or three years later 95 percent of traditional dieters regain the weight,” she says.

This year’s main stage speakers will include:

Mary Hartley, a registered dietitian, writer and leader in the nutrition field, will discuss the concept of “Intuitive Eating,” a non-Tone Detox approach to weight-loss that “shifts the paradigm from weight-loss to wellness, from food fear to food pleasure and from body dissatisfaction to body trust.” Hartley is the former Director of Nutrition for CalorieCount.com, a Tone Detox website owned by The New York Times. Hartley helped develop the website, which aids members in managing their diets and weight, and wrote the popular Ask Mary, your personal nutritionist column.

Dr. Marie Pasinski, a staff neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, is the author of Boost Your Brain Power and Beautiful Brain, Beautiful You – 7 Steps to a Better, Smarter Younger You. She believes the key to changing our lives for the better involves improving our brains. Pasinski will present a program for keeping our brains in peak condition, training them with the same intent as elite athletes train their bodies;

Jessica Smith, a nationally-recognized fitness and lifestyle expert and promoter of the “10-Minute Solution” and author of Thin in 10, will discuss how exercising in short clips can improve our health and wellbeing and also fit into our lifestyle. The featured fitness expert on over 40 million boxes of Special K products, Smith has starred in 13 best-selling fitness DVD’s since 2005;

Dr. Malissa Wood, a clinical cardiologist and staff physician in the Cardiac Ultrasound Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, will present her new book, Smart at Heart: A Holistic 10-Step Approach to Preventing and Healing Heart Disease. Her approach bridges the gap between the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of a healthy heart and delivers a toolbox of new scientific findings on what women at risk of heart disease can do to improve their own health;

Diane Carbonell, one of the nation’s top weight-loss bloggers, is a formerly obese 300-pound mom who lost 150 pounds and has kept it off for 14 years. Carbonell will share her “Fit to the Finish” plan for weight loss that focuses on the percentage of fat in our diets, exercise and portion size;

Jennifer Rumple, the Biggest Loser At Home Winner from “Biggest Loser Season Twelve,” will discuss losing 145 pounds while battling a serious knee injury on The Ranch. Jennifer weighed her heaviest at 365 pounds on her 39th birthday. Now 40 and 180 pounds lighter, she feels her new, healthy lifestyle and physical body finally match who she is on the inside. She’s dedicated to inspiring others to make smart choices about nutrition and fitness and to live the most healthy, happy and amazing life possible;

Bernie Salazar, the Biggest Loser At Home Winner from “Biggest Loser Season Five”, is now committed to helping combat the childhood obesity epidemic that is literally weighing down our nation’s kids. His book Monstercise focuses on getting kids up and active by encouraging them to use their imagination as they participate in a series of fun and exciting movements with the help of an imaginary little monster named Frank;

Michael Tischler, DDS, a dentist with a private practice in Woodstock, will discuss gum disease and overall health, eating disorders and oral issues for women, pregnancy and oral health, and healthy dental self-esteem.

Liz Neporent, a health and fitness expert, writer and social media consultant, will also moderate a panel of the main stage speakers in the afternoon, giving the audience additional time to ask questions. Neporent is a regular contributor to ABC News where her influential online Reporter’s Notebook series covers a diversity of health topics such as the psychology of barefoot running and obesity in fruit flies. She is author and coauthor of more than 15 health books including Fitness for Dummies, now in its 4th edition and Weight Training for Dummies, now in its 3rd edition.

In addition to the main stage speakers, workshops on a variety of topics will be offered during the day, including: Management of Infertility and da Vinci Robotics, Myths and Facts of the Supplement Industry, Living Well in Spite of Endometriosis, and You Have The Power to Heal Yourself. Eight fitness demonstrations will also take place throughout the Expo, among them: Body Flow, Zumba and Zumba Gold for Seniors, Smart Bells, Dance Like No One is Watching, along with others in cooperation with the YMCA and MAC Fitness. More than half a dozen chefs will offer cooking demonstrations.

Held at Tech City in previous years, this year’s Expo is moving to its new location at the M. Clifford Miller School because the increased space and layout there are better suited to main stage needs, cooking facilities, weight and fitness rooms and the ever-growing number of health and fitness professionals and exhibitors who will be participating, according to Dr. Debra Karnasciewicz, founder and director of the not-for-profit Women’s Health and Fitness Foundation and the Expo.

Event details including online tickets and up-to-the-minute schedules can be found at http://www.womenshealthexpo.com.

Fitness and Weight Loss Expert Kyle Hanson Joins Local Dubuque, Iowa Gym

Dubuque, IA (PRWEB) April 17, 2012

Fitness and weight loss are two things that many people do not get the right opportunity to combine in their life. There are endless programs that are available that make claims of how bodies can be changed and altered with little work involved. For Dubuque, IA personal trainer, Kyle Hanson, the opportunity to help local gym members find a new fitness system has finally arrived. Signature Health and Fitness has hired Kyle Hanson to help improve the fitness and weight loss programs currently offered. Kyle now has the opportunity to use his knowledge and experience of fitness routines to help people trying to lose weight or build muscle tone.

Fad diets and miracle supplements have helped to fuel the billion dollar a year weight loss industry. Fitness legends like Jack LaLanne knew differently and spent decades educating the general public about health and fitness routines. “Eating right, daily exercise and targeted muscle training are what leads to weight loss,” said Kyle Hanson. “Many people are confused by the advertising messages put out by supplement sellers and forget about the natural way the body is designed to lose weight and build muscle,” added Hanson. The training and experience that Kyle brings to Signature Health and Fitness can help average people shed excess fat while maintaining a balance of nutrition and wellness. Studies have shown that people that are taught proper fitness carry the learned routines throughout adulthood.

Routine weight training is often confused with professional bodybuilding. Experienced men and women are the ones that actively participate in competitions to show off the results of many years worth of muscle and fitness routines. For the average person, weight training is one of the natural ways that fat is burned and loose skin is turned into muscle tone. “I work with clients everyday that are surprised just how fast their muscles become toned with just a little weight training,” said Kyle Hanson. “Lifting heavy weights is usually not required and a person can do very well with less than 15 pounds of weights at a time,” added Hanson. As an expert Dubuque personal trainer, Kyle has personally witnessed the ups and downs of many people that struggle with weight loss and fitness.

Signature Health and Fitness is the 12,000 square foot facility where Kyle Hanson now works. This expert fitness and weight training facility owned by the Lane family provides professional health and fitness equipment to the local gym members. The expert knowledge of fitness routines by Kyle Hanson and the huge facility to teach multiple clients at once can help many Dubuque, Iowa residents shed weight and look and feel great.

About Fitness by Kyle

Kyle Hanson has dedicated his adult life to fitness and weight loss training. Kyle perfected his muscle and training program in high school and is an experienced personal trainer in Dubuque, Iowa. His unique training program is available to the public through one-on-one or group training.

Fitness Trainer And Owner Of Ideal Fitness Trends Releases Brand New Video Tutorial On How To Lose Love Handles Without Giving Up Junk Food

Fitness Trainer And Owner Of Ideal Fitness Trends Releases Brand New Video Tutorial On How To Lose Love Handles Without Giving Up Junk Food

(PRWEB) April 17, 2012

Jared DiCarmine, a well known fitness and personal physique expert, owner of Ideal Fitness Trends has just put together and uploaded a content packed video presentation for people who are looking to discover different ways of losing their love handles. Spurred on by a family tragedy at a young age, Mr. DiCarmine has made it his life’s mission to help cure the wrath of obesity that is ravaging the population one person at a time. The first step in this mission is teaching people the correct ways of Tone Detox and exercise that will allow them to finally get the body they desire and become healthier human beings without having to give up their social life or their favorite foods.

DiCarmine attained his degree in Exercise Science from Springfield College and graduated with honors. During his time there, he noticed that the biggest issue for most of his clients and others as well was following their weight loss program. Often times, the client or subject would start off great, however, after a couple of weeks to months, he or she would usually curtail off the path and end up back at square one.

After much investigation, DiCarmine realized that it wasn’t the methods that weren’t working in regards to how to lose love handles, it was because the methods were too restrictive for a person to make a favorable and lasting change in their health and weight.

Therefore, almost out of necessity, DiCarmine had to dig deeper and figure out new, fun, and creative ways for someone to get the body of their dreams, to get healthier and to drop pounds of belly fat. That’s why he came up with his “strategic over-feeding” principle so the client would never feel like they were on a Tone Detox. This technique allows the subject to eat their favorite foods once every 5-7 days, which resets their metabolism for the next week to keep constantly burning body fat at the same accelerated rate when they started.

You can get all of this and much more on how to lose love handles by clicking the links.

Acai Diets Q&A

I need help choosing a diet and fitness plan. Suggestions?

2 Comments 18 March 2012

Question by reader: I need help choosing a Tone Detox and fitness plan. Suggestions?
I’ve had 3 children and it’s left my body flabby and 50 lbs overweight. My youngest is now 4 yrs old so it’s time I finally do something to loose the weight. My biggest problem with a Tone Detox will be that I am a complete carb addict. Also I loose weight incredibly slowly and get discouraged rather easily. Anyone out there tried anything that works great for them?

Best answer:

Answer by br@ski
i advise you to drink green tea 1-3 glasses per day
green tea speeds up your metabolism
drink lots and lots of water 8 glasses each day.
do not snack
do not eat 6 meals a day, try to only eat 3
if you are really hungry and you’ve had all your daily meals snack on fruits ( oranges, apples, bananas )
exercise more try and run for at least 30 minutes a day
get more active
get more sleep it prepares your body
stretch, yes it works and it doesn’t just help you lose weight it helps with you’re growing to make you a little taller
count your calories try to stay under the amount of 1300 calories per day
change you’re lifestyle it makes a difference
do not eat candy or chips eat more greens or protein bars
avoid fast food and cut out fried food when you cook your meal oven cook your food do not fry it
chew gum because when you chew gum you do not pick at food for example if theres some chips in you’re cupboard you go to them a think good damn they look good then you would say no i cant pick at them because i dont wanna throw my gum away
do not eat after 6pm because before 6pm you can burn all you’re food off and if you eat after six it will lay on you’re stomach as you eat.
do not eat before you go to sleep
drink a glass of water before you go to sleep
drink plain hot kettle water because it speeds up you’re metabolism
do not weigh you’re self everyday because it torments you,weight you’re self once a week ( every Monday )
good luck!
you can safley lose 2 to 3 lbs. a week

Integrity Health Coaching for Women Debunks the 5 Common “Myths” in Fitness

Integrity Health Coaching for Women Debunks the 5 Common “Myths” in Fitness

Rocco Boulay

Manchester, NH (PRWEB) March 06, 2012

It’s truly amazing how the media has confused many people about fitness and what they can do to get into better shape. The reality is that there is no “one” thing. It is a synergy between eating, exercising and “thinking” properly. Without the knowledge to understand the components to health most people will ultimately fail. Below are 5 myths that we have debunked along with a few tips to help you achieve your goals.

Myth # 1 – Crunches and abdominal work will get rid of the fat around my waist.

Answer: Not true. Unfortunately there is no such thing as “spot reducing” any area of your body. This holds true for all body parts. The truth is you can only firm up the muscles underneath the fatty area. Because everyone genetically stores his or her fat in certain areas it normally is a rule of thumb that the first place the fat (typically the belly and thighs) comes on is the last place it comes off.

Tip: Revisit what you are eating and replace those foods with those rich in protein and complex carbohydrates. Eat fats that are poly and monounsaturated while avoiding foods that contain trans fats. Don’t believe what you see on television. Take your vitamins.

Myth #2 – If your not sweating, your not burning calories.

Answer: Not true. All work burns calories. The body sweating is its way of keeping cool. Not everybody perspires profusely during exercise. Although sweating is great for detoxifying the body and keeping it cool, the amount of calories it takes to jog a mile is the same for everyone, whether you are sweating or not.

Tip: If you want to increase your caloric expenditure try 12-15 minutes of moderate cardio upon rising first thing in the morning before eating. This will increase your metabolic rate for the whole day, increasing daily calorie expenditure.

Myth #3 – Muscle weighs more than fat.

Answer: Six of one or ½ dozen of the other is a common phrase. Five pounds of muscle and five pounds of fat weigh “5 pounds”. The real answer is 5lbs. of muscle is DENSER than 5lbs. of fat. This means that if you replaced 5 lbs. of fat with 5lbs. of muscle you would weigh the same but your measurements would be smaller. Just think of a golf ball as (muscle) and a tennis ball as (fat) and see that they weigh about the same thing but the golf ball is denser, therefore it takes up less space.

Tip: Eat healthy foods along with lean protein, be the golf ball.

Myth #4 – I will get BIG if I lift weights.

Answer: Not true. Women especially those who are trying to lose fat struggle with this concept. Because many women start weight training at a body fat percentage that is high they run into an apparent issue. The issue is that upon embarking on a weight-training program the muscles begin to fill out BEFORE the fat is burned away. Although the new muscles are what are necessary to burn the excess fat moving forward many women stop weight training and lose the fat loss benefits of added muscle.

Tip: Every effective weight loss program that contains weight training will begin with weight gain. Be patient with yourself and just understand that if you continue with a healthy Tone Detox and exercise plan that employs weights you will look and feel great before you know it.

Myth #5 – Cardiovascular exercises are the most effective at burning fat.

Answer: Not true. The truth is that walking at approximately 3.5 mph for one hour burns approximately 500 calories. There are actually 3500 calories in a pound of fat. How many hours would it take you to lose 10 lbs. ? The answer is 3500 cal. in 1lb. fat /500 cal. during 1 hr. cardio = 7 hours. It would take 7 hours of cardio to lose 1 pound. Now multiply that by 10lbs. to lose and you get 70 hours.

Tip: Although cardiovascular exercise is a component of good health it is not meant to be the modality for fat loss. The best way to lose weight is to lift weights 3 times per week, perform 20 minutes of cardio 3 times per week, stretch following your exercise bouts, and stop eating foods that are packaged and processed.

Sven Michael Davison Addresses Fitness ?State of Mind?

Sven Michael Davison Addresses Fitness “State of Mind”

“State of Mind” book cover

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

In the recently released cyberpunk thriller “State of Mind,” Davison comments on America’s obsession with losing weight and trying to look like a celebrity. The book has several futuristic advertisements that address a quick fix attitude toward getting fit, looking great, and becoming smarter. In addition to the book, Davison created a faux infomercial that satirizes fitness banner ads and infomercials for an “I want it now” culture, while giving information on his novel’s main plot device- the P-Chip.

Today, shows like “The Biggest Loser,” “Celebrity Fit Club,” “Thintervention” as well as direct marketing for products like “P90X” and “30 Day Shred” feed on America’s obsession with staying in shape, and looking beautiful. “Yesterday we had Jack Lalanne and Richard Simons. Tomorrow we may have the P-Chip. With all these crash diets and quick fitness programs, wouldn’t it be easier just to get a Chip installed in your head and let it do all the work?” states Davison. “State of Mind” and Davison’s P-Chip faux infomercial, satirize this cultural phenomenon.

“State of Mind” is first and foremost a near-future thriller, but the novel definitely comments on the society of today with a few humorous anecdotes.

“State of Mind” is a cautionary tale that examines the loss of freedom in a classic post-industrial dystopia. Jake Travissi, a fallen hero, is given a rare second chance at redemption. The price? Volunteer to have a computer chip implanted in his brain and join Homeland Security’s experimental Enhanced Unit.

Davison wrestles with many of the most compelling themes of cyberpunk genre today: Should we embrace every technological advance without question? Should humankind blend itself physically with machines? What does freedom really mean? All of these questions are answered within a vivid tapestry where the boundaries between the virtual world and the real world have dissolved.

“State of Mind” is a finalist and winner of two Dan Poynter’s Global eBook Awards.
